The Doak Provincial Historic Site commemorates Scottish entrepreneur Robert Doak, who moved to the Upper Miramichi with his family in 1825.  There, he established a carding mill, a grist mill, and a sawmill.  The influential Robert Doak also held various prestigious positions within his community.  In 1854, when the “great” highway was opened, the community was renamed “Doaktown” in honour of Squire Doak.  Visit the Doak Site and note the architectural importance of this collection of buildings and the richness of its original furniture.
